I searched wedding and fontainebleau. The death was in July, but ruled a homicide this week.

The death of a 75-year-old man police said was hit with a vehicle after an argument at a Fontainebleau-area church wedding has officially been declared a homicide by the Orleans Parish Coroner's office.

Coroner Dr. Jeffrey Rouse said Tuesday (Dec. 29) in an email Robert Sarpy died July 21, 2015, of blunt force trauma as a result of being struck by a vehicle.

quote:

The New Orleans Police Department booked an Alabama man, 35-year-old Chester Alpaugh, on a charge of second-degree murder two days after Sarpy, of New Orleans, died. Rouse said in the five months since Sarpy's death, his office reviewed NOPD traffic and homicide reports before determining it was homicide.

I don't feel sorry for him

Moments earlier, Alpaugh and a sibling were attending a wedding in a nearby church when Alpaugh became irate and an argument followed, according to the arrest warrant application.

The sibling left the church, got into his car and attempted to leave. Police and prosecutors say Alpaugh also got into his car and sped away, driving at a high rate of speed against traffic as he followed his sibling.

Alpaugh jumped the neutral ground, lost control of his car and struck Sarpy, according to police reports.

He has been in and out of institutions his entire life. It's a rough situation. Members of my family were there and witnessed the whole thing.

It will be an uphill battle for the defense...Mr. Sarpy, as you know, was a well known, well liked, well heeled, and well connected Old New Orlenian.

Sad situation.
