However...I went when it was fully magnet. When it was actually a top engineering program so a lot of the students in the engineering program there. So many of my classmates lived all over Baton Rouge and even Zachary and Central(NOT in North Baton Rouge).

I graduated from Central High the same year and we had kids bussed in from Scotlandville back then. Luckily it wasn't enough to really make the school bad but some of them were like 19-20 their Jr year and had 2 kids.

That school went to shite once they mixed the magnet kids with regular neighborhood kids. So really 1996 was the last good year of that school.
I know McKinley HS is a magnet school as well. Do you know if they mix the magnet school kids with the regular neighborhood kids there? I never knew how that worked.
You went to Scotlandville Magnet right? So when you were there it was separate from the regular HS? Did the magnet school take more than the kids that lived in the area that the regular HS had to live, to go there?

When I was there the ENTIRE school was a magnet school. You didn't keep up the required GPA to be in the magnet program...you were tossed out of the school.
It was nice going to school with only kids that actually gave a shite about their education. It wasn't a question if you were going to college there...but an expectation of which college you were going to and how many you had applied to.
I remember ONE fight my entire 4 years there.

Damn, where did you grow up to have to Goto Scotlandville
In the early 90's SMHS was just a little behind Baton Rouge High in the quality of students produced. I lived off of Millerville and traveled to North BR.

And even that was debatable at times.
They were our rival school that was for sure.

Central and Baker was 99% wanna be thugs back then. However, finding a smart one was like finding a unicorn.

Animals from a shithole.
To be expected. Not surprised.

Somehow there weren’t any fights at the Catholic High or SJA graduations. Must’ve been an off year or something.
I also love how the River Center is full of cops for these events, and you know every single one said “frick that” and looked the other direction.
