not enough. I appreciate she handled herself better than Lori Loughlin but 2 weeks is ridiculous. 6 months would have been nice, if not a year.

What they did shouldn't be a crime. There were no real victims.

Wasn't there also some tax fraud involved besides scamming the whole system?

She paid someone $15,000 that she wrote off to charity.

You think that dropped her a tax bracket? Or that she couldn't just pay the restitution immediately with interest?

ETA:

Lori Loughlin paid $500,000, for reference. And she's facing several more charges.

There has to be a victim for there to be a crime? What about people who's only crime is smoking a little marijuana or selling a little?

Plus there were victims, these schools have enrollment limits. They took someone's place.

Absolutely, 100%, should not be a crime. And most people agree.

And you don't go to jail for it these days without priors.

Decent argument.

But you could also say it funded scholarships for kids who couldn't otherwise attend the university. Or improved facilities for the entire student body to enhance their learning experience.

Shouldn't be a crime either because there are no victims there either.

It's a private school so I don't care.

I don't care about the context or how naive it comes across. She did the crime she should be held responsible. There has been countless injustices in our criminal justice system for menial crimes committed by POC this woman did something to skirt the system because of her privilege. She deserves to do time.

I don't like people giving a million dollars and getting their dumb rich kid in to school but at least they did it in a manner that's allowed. She bypassed even the good ol' boy system. The whole different rules b/c I have a large bank account is real and it enrages me.

I agree but a rich white woman shouldn't the person who initiates balancing the scales of justice. There's been too much wrong done to those who've done less.

Honest question, why?

Consider that million dollars benefits countless other students and funds scholarships and grants. Is that not completely and unequivocally worth having 1 dumb kid admitted? Also consider that 1 dumb kid with super rich parents probably also creates a network for other students and their careers.

So your argument is still that she should be punished unfairly because others before her were also punished unfairly? And because she's a rich white woman we can't do the right thing?
