In a judgment filed Thursday, U.S. District Judge Robbie James declared that Monroe City Schools is no longer under judicial supervision and declared the district unitary.
James also denied the U.S. Department of Justice's motion for further relief, which argued the district had not met all requirements to ensure racial equality for students in the areas of teacher and administration staffing and equal course offerings at all schools.
Monroe City School Board President Bill Willson said the board was hoping this would be the outcome. He said it's a positive day for the district and he wants to see the district continue it's positive trajectory.
Willson said the board members have worked together diligently as a unit to achieve unitary status.
To be declared unitary, a school district must show achievement in the five areas, called Green factors. Monroe City Schools are now unitary in all factors:
faculty and staff assignments (2018)
transportation (2015)
extra-curricular activities (1992)
facilities (1992)
student assignments (2015)
The district, since fall 2015, has worked to ensure its administrators understand the staffing obligations to prevent a disproportionately high number of white teachers from teaching at schools the most white students attend. (The student population is 87 percent black, and there are no majority white schools.)
The judge found that MCSB has worked to develop and improve the medical magnet program at Carroll High School, which was created to recruit white students to the school.

Can they now create "neighborhood" schools, i.e. a white school?

Well we can’t have that, can we?

At last. Can we finally go back to segregation?

I think it’s silly that neighborhoods/areas can’t just have their own schools.
There is no reason to send kids across a city to go to school anymore these days.

Monroe is doomed as a city unless some manufacturer decides that its worth building a cross-docking plant along the railroad tracks.
The downtown area should be a pretty cool place, especially for a college town. However, there is nothing drawing people to live in the city and frankly a lot of the population is scared to live around anyone darker than a Roman

Some of these judges are seriously just wasting tax payer money in not declaring districts as reaching unitary status. The req’s to reach unitary status in some localities is nearly impossible. Funds and time could be spent in so many better ways than trying to make sure that “proportional” demographics are present in each school

Bussing is just another example of "soft racism" that the left excels at so well. Looking at the outcomes (not the opportunities) they figure all black schools will never cut it because of some imagined systemic racism so they disrupt other schools that actually are functioning. In reality it's a problem of culture and the welfare state, both propped up by more of the Democrats' unknowing prejudice against minorities. Without saying it out loud, their programs are telling blacks "You can't do it on your own, so here, let the nice liberal white people lead you out of this hole ALL whites put you in." LBJ's war on poverty royally screwed over blacks, and a fraudulent educational system is not helping them either.

Yup. But never satisfied with wasting enough money and causing enough damage, the government actually wanted to keep this case open.
