We did it in 5th. The only thing I couldn't do was reach an inch past my toes.

I'm not very flexible.

We did it every year.

I thought every school did?

I couldn't do the pullup portion until 6th grade. That was my nemesis. I think it was 10 pullups? Sad now, thinking about it

The mile usually got most kids, but I was a skinny lanky kid, so that was my bread and butter.

They took recess away at my school in 5th grade Bc they said there were too many fights. I legit gained about 10 lbs.

Fitness, no, but to be fair you can never exercise and not be a lard like most people. All you have to do is know what you are putting in your body.

You seem to be legitimately obsessed with this. Did you and Gilbert Grape share a mom?

This. Mine weren't even able to yell or scream during recess. Do these modern day teachers not understand that the entire point of recess was to get that excess energy out of their system so that they could concentrate during class?

The guidelines and related reports, published Monday in the Journal of the American Medical Association, say the failure to meet the recommended levels of aerobic physical activity leads to nearly $117 billion in annual health care costs and 10 percent of all premature death
That's a ridiculous paragraph. Premature death actually saves healthcare dollars in the long run. The people who live longer will still accrue those healthcare costs and more. If someone dies from a massive heart attack at 62 they are going to cost less than someone who continues to seek healthcare for an additional thirty years plus. Add to that the nursing home costs and the expenses of the inevitable dying and the number provided above tells us nothing.
