First and foremost "The Gift of the Magi"
Any Roald Dahl story, especially the one about the Black Mamba.
Saki. We had all of his short stories in one book and I devoured it.
Most memorable: Edgar Allen Poe. Problem is, I remember almost all of them, so the shock value is gone. I was reading them when I went to a meeting at UVA over Thanksgiving. Students all gone and I got to walk around campus, the old part where the living quarters were when Poe was there. In my imagination he was still there and all the old brick walls.
