Hospitalizations are nearly gone in my county and a vaccine is pretty broadly available. I’m not relying on anything other than my own decision making. Please leave me alone.

He went from being just another unknown government employee to being one of the most well known (and popular among some circles) federal guys in a matter of months. I’m not saying he’s doing it for this reason but he probably loves being essentially a celebrity.
