No, your previous statement was untrue because you are claiming the lag between diagnosis and death has anything to do with why the death rate continues to go down as the virus continues to work its way through the entire population.
More people recover and gain antibodies, weaker people have already succumbed, treatment methods have gotten better, virus doesn't do as well in warmer temps, people are no longer staying cooped up together INSIDE during stay at home orders, etc...

Lagging indicator such as death will allow the cfr to continue to fall. As well as increased testing that continues to find more negatives than positives.
The IFR is what the IFR is. The virus isn't changing that much to cause a major shift assuming infections occur across the entire population.
