She was actively trying to murder him as you can tell because she pulled the trigger when he went for the gun.
That interaction could’ve gone in a completely different way.

Guy was playing a dangerous game. Once that gun was pulled that may be a good time to retreat. I'm glad he won in the end, and he and his family are ok.

I noticed something
He racked the slide back first, then dropped the magazine.
At first, i had to go back and rewatch it again wondering if he had just handed off a loaded pistol and then realized, he racked it twice.
Always drop the mag, then rack the slide to clear

Also separate the loaded mag from the gun.
Although it’s very possible she only had a couple rounds in the mag. Last I heard EBT doesn’t purchase bullets
