Street racing has been a thing since automobiles were introduced. Before that it was horse racing.
Good luck trying to slow that down.

I like them. Big budget action gets me. Good or, not.

We need a movie to come out that glorifies education, honesty, and hard work. At very least one that goes back to driving slower.

Dear heavenly spirit, thank you for providing us with the direct port nitrous injection, four core intercoolers, ball bearing turbos, and titanium valve springs. Thank you.

Street Racing has always been a thing, I think a positive effect from the movie was getting young kids interested in cars. It certainly pushed me in that direction since prior to that movie the only thing I cared about was shoving as many subwoofers as I could into my S-10 Blazer. The whole domestic v. import debate still gets people going today.
Solid. We had weekend organized street racing as far back as when I started driving at 15 in the 70’s.
Those movies are entertaining, hot wife loves them. Wanna throw something at the TV when they utter “NOS” however.
And Pinks proved there is NO debate between domestics vs imports, almost every single. Pinks, now that was entertainment.

Nos, a brand name, becoming a catch all for all manufacturers’ nitrous systems was one of the worst results.
Car doing a burn out and wheelie was as far as I could make it.

I have a 1992 Honda accord 2door in my parents garage that has 138,00 miles on it and never missed a service appointment.
Sometimes I drive it for fun and it never fails that I have notes left under the window blade of someone wanting to buy it when I come back to the car…

Street racing was a thing before the movie ever came out.
It’s been a thing since the 50s with hot rods and later muscle cars. It died down after EPA regs caused regular cars to be less powerful. The popularity of Japanese imports led to its resurgence in the 90s which led to the movie. The movie probably caused it to be more popular, but it was a popular thing long before it. My grandfather told me about doing it in the 50s. He said they also had demolition derby’s in open fields for fun with beat up cars they bought cheap from salvage yards and got running again. He said it makes him sick now knowing what all those cars they destroyed would be worth today
