Been going on for a long time is my experience. My aunt use to live across from a Baptist Church that had a black congregation back in the mid 60's.
When they would have a funeral mass at the church, it was almost guaranteed that at least 4-5 women would exit a car and get into the whole "OH LAWDY" thing and flop all over the sidewalk and need help getting up the steps.
