Failed Surgery

I've been lucky enough to have plenty of experience with successful procedures over 34 years, but recently had a cyst removed and once bandages came off it's still there. It's a bible cyst. It's been 3 weeks and seems to get more prominent each day. Spoke with PA today who said it's not normal at all to still be really noticeable. Only minor swelling perhaps at this point should be there. I have an appointment next week. She mentioned reoccurrence, but it's been a immobilized since surgery. I just don't want to get into it with surgeon. What do I say? Husband is pissed and wants me to insist they fix it. What would the OT do?

I've never been in this situation. Idk how to boss around some surgeon. Do people even do that? My deductible is high. Otherwise I'd probably just not worry about it and go to another specialist.

I've had one of those on my wrist for years,it comes and goes, was told surgery wasn't worth it and it could still come back.

. Nothing against him at all, I like him. That's why I'm here. He fixed my femur when I was 12 and 13. Right knee at 14 and elbow a couple years ago.

I've had those before but never opted for surgery.. actually beat it with a book to displace it the first time.. hence the name.. why did you choose to have surgery, I assume it just wouldn't burst?

It's been there for several years and the last couple years it's been pretty painful in the wrist and thumb. I couldn't put my hand flat on the ground with any weight on it. I'm a slightly vain female who would like to get rid of any imperfection I can. I did try and hit it with a big book or even on the counter tops with no success. It's on the inside of my wrist, not the dorsal side like usual, and it was pretty hard and immobile.

Honestly, you should remove the Doctors name. This could be a fluke and putting the name up could cause more trouble for the doc than is justified by your posting.

Even after surgery, ganglion cysts can come back.

Cysts have a statistically significant rate of recurrence even with surgery. That said 3 weeks seems like a very short interval for recurrence and there may have been a failure. Was the cyst drained with a needle and then injected or did they make an actual incision or use arthroscopic approaches to remove the cyst? Adverse or no results can occur with any treatment and there is no guarantee of complete success with any treatment method. You should see the surgeon again and/or get a second opinion.

It wasn't an aspiration. They made an incision. I had a nerve block and a Michael Jackson special. Felt great.

Ganglion cysts aren't like other cysts. Regular cysts you just remove it and it's wall and is gone. Unfortunately,not so for ganglion or synovial cysts. They don't have a true cyst wall.

My longest lasted a few months and I met with a relative who's a doc he advised against the surgery because they come back more often he believed.. wasn't his speacilty but he told me to give it some time before going that route.. obviously you waited quite some time and I hope they can get it figured out.. my understanding is that they are persistent in reoccurrence even though I haven't had one in a 4 or so years..
