The wife and I had a Come To Jesus a couple of years ago. The issue was Facebook, and how she was constantly comparing her day to day life with the best of everyone else's lives she sees posted there.

She agreed to stop using facebook on her phone (which accounts for 90% of her internet consumption), and today she is significantly happier.

I don't use it at all.

It really will be the downfall of society

Facebook, and social media in general, has always existed in some form or another. 100 years ago it was the sewing circle and town gossip. 30 years ago it was talking on the telephone for long hours. Then aim, and chat rooms. Humans are social. Over time society will adjust to this faster and more widespread version of social interaction, and most will decide they don't want to be that immersed in it (like you did). FB is already about 90% middle aged women sharing quote memes. All about the chatsnaps these days.

This is the thread where everyone shits on FB while still being on another form of social media to get their fix and taking part in this nonsense.

I'm not trying to get on a high horse here, but not having FB anymore (along with never having Twitter or Instagram) has made me a much happier person in general

Having these things isn't the problem. It's all about how you consume them.

I got off social media and it feels great. But then again I'm still a degenerate shitposter on TD.

It's an amazing tool for business because it gets your name out there as much as you want.

As far as for social reasons, it'll be the bane of our existence as a species.

I think anonymous social boards like this one are where it's at. On here, what matters is the substance of what you post - no one gives a shite about appearances or making sure they confine themselves to what society deem's "acceptable." We have the license to freely express ourselves on all sorts of topics with no risk of negative repercussions. The shallow, look at me and how great my life is BS has no place where substance is king.

I’m picking up what you’re putting down, brother. I had MySpace for a minute way back when. I’ve never had any other social media concept intercept my life. I get to hear allllll about the nonsense and totally irrelevant crap out there from my wife. People need to get outside and smell the fresh air and forget about “liking this” and “tweeting that”. There’s so much ignorance on that shite it’s mind boggling.
