Facebook's AI creating its own language is terrifying

We talked about this but it bears repeating. This is scary.

Facebook shut down an artificial intelligence engine after developers discovered that the AI had created its own unique language that humans can’t understand. Researchers at the Facebook AI Research Lab (FAIR) found that the chatbots had deviated from the script and were communicating in a new language developed without human input. It is as concerning as it is amazing – simultaneously a glimpse of both the awesome and horrifying potential of AI.

We need to stop this shite while we can

Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should.
Or some shite like that.
Or some shite like that.

This is like two months old and it didn't even actually happen.

I have been talking about this for weeks and hardly anyone is aware it happened. This is almost equivalent to discovering a new form of intelligent life. But no one seems to care. They are going to frick around and develop something that is going to shut down the internet on its own or something similarly disastrous.

Terrifying yes. But I'm confident humans sense danger well enough on an evolutionary scale before we allow singularity, although continued Russia/China technological warfare will bring us close to that point

Will Smith will save us. He did last time.

Until my alarm clock or microwave can walk, I'm good.

I don't even know why the frick we want to create something like this. It's smarter, stronger and just overall better than us.
We are fricking humans, we're the top dog on this planet, why are we supplanting ourselves???

I think they shut it down because it wasn't successful, not out of fear, but because the AI was evolving into something useless. IIRC, it was still using English but just dropping less efficient words and using strings like "me me me" to mean it gets 3 of something. Humans do a similar thing when interacting with computers. Think about when you search Google. You don't type complete sentences, you type the least amount of words that generate your desired result. For instance, "Facebook AI shutdown" as opposed to "Article about Facebook shutting down AI system".
