I have the 3.5 in a 2013 with the tow package that has over 189k miles. I can't contrast with the 5.0 but have had zero problems with mine. It has loads of torque and pulls my low-boy trailer with the tractor and implements easily.

Not sure why you keep mentioning getting above a certain speed...

You just have to divide the number of miles driven on a tank of gas by the amount of gas burned. That's your actual mpg. You should probably reset the computer mpg so you can see what it says for that tank of gas.

I have a 2016 with the 2.7 If I had to do again I would go V8. The turbo lag is a deal breaker for me. Also had fuel pump go out at 45K miles. It does a good job towing my 22' bay boat. Just my .02

Has Ford fixed the 2018 5.0 using a quart of oil every 1-3000 miles problem? Lot of engines being replaced before they reach 10,000 miles.

I’ve got a 2019 Lariat 4x4 5.0. I have just over 5k on it and it’s averaging 17.8. So far I like it except for the 10 speed which is taking some getting used to, particularly at low speeds where it will sometimes seem to wind 4th gear way out. One other interesting thing is I think it’s spent less than 1 second in 2d gear in the entire 5k miles.

I get roughly 18.5/city and 23.5/highway if you believe the computer.

Have the 2.7 and my driving is a good mix of city and traffic and I average ~22.5 ... as per the computer. I have checked it and the computer is about .5 off to the high side. I'll take 22 mpg in a truck all day long.

As far as power... I have done some towing and it was just fine and as far as responsive...the 2.7 is quick as hell.

The 5.0 was a proven engine, but the last rev they did to it created issues, along with the 10 speed. I would avoid it right now.

On my second F150 5.4l. Kept the first one 10 years and now hitting 10 years this December. Going to hit 200K miles in October. Curious whether to go with the 5.0 or the 3.5 on the next one. Not looking for getup as I prefer more pulling power. Likely 5.0

I had a 2013 with EcoBoost 3.5 in Lariat with HD tow package, 3.55 gears, winch, and cattle catcher on the front. It got 17.5-18 with factory size tires and then 14.5 with 35" mud tires. Traded at 140,000 with no problems ever.

I now have the 3.0 PS and it gets 24.5-26 with factory tires. It also has a winch, cattle catcher, and 3.31 gears. With my 35" mud tires it drops down to 21-22.

To summarize while the EB was the best gas burner (1/2 ton) I've ever owned the PS will do everything as well as the EB but getting 7 mpg better in every situation. I'd compare the performance of the PS to the 5.0.

I met a guy who had his PS deleted (DEF, EGR, and tuner) and he claims he's now getting 29, his words not mine. Regardless when mine hits 60K (next year) it will be deleted at that point.

If towing is your main driver for an engine the 3.0L diesel is probably the best option. Its fuel economy advantage grows as the weight increases and has been shown to cause the tranny to shift less often and stay in higher gears than the gas engines in the same conditions.

Can track down the youtube link for the tests if you are interested.

Do yourself a favor and look at the turbo diesel in the F-150. My 2019 is averaging 25mpg. I have been pleasantly surprised by it. It's got the same 10-speed transmission as the other trucks in the F-150 lineup.

25mpg doesn’t mean much when the fuel is so much more expensive.

Also, you’re in for a world of hurt in 2020 boss.

Are you referencing the mandated shift away from #6 (bunker fuel) for some maritime vessels in certain areas?
