The profit margins are very low.
Do you nimrods know where the profits go to in situations like this with publicly traded companies.

The gloom and doom going around.

Is there going to be an adjustment as a result of prices decreasing? Yes.

Will there be layoffs/closures of businesses and assets that only exist when the price is super high? Yes.

Is it the oilpocalypse? Naw.

Possibly. I think the market will recover to the $40's and stay there for a decade or more...XOM is heavy in natural gas and will ultimately be fine. Cutting the fat, every industry needs it.

You know natural gas is at $2 ?

I agree...for 2016....

Impossible given the lack of new projects and capex spending.... the lack of new projects/production will eventually catch up and drive the prices higher...

cut spending this year by one-quarter

This is where it hurts everyone. I know everyone is happy for cheap gas and think this won't impact them but these O&G companies were spending a lot of money and everyone else was benefiting from it.

Hopefully gas will be less than a $1.00 soon.

They need to cut spending. Those big O&G industries are bloated like the federal government. Have you seen the inner workings of one of them? They're are so many useless non-working mofos over there. It reminds me of the DMV sometimes.

Exxon is a very lean company that runs on very conservative cost methods

I am merely saying O&G companies spend big money and non-O&G companies benefit greatly from it. Local Real Estate, Construction and contruction materials, consulting, legal, accounting, governments tax revenue and on and on and on.

When people say they don't care about O&G prices or companies I am pointing out this will trickle to non-O&G industries.

Maybe they were bloated. But, it is going to be painful to rightsize them and painful to everyone, is all I am saying.

But they're still making 42% profits...

Which they need to dump back into exploration and drilling. If they aren't drilling as much, then they have a lot of staff that become unnecessary and a drain.

I'm curious how this ties into some of their subsidiaries like XTO? I have some good friends that really depend on them for work.

I am guessing the profits go to the same place they do in privately held companies, the owners right?

That means share holders, employees, retirement funds, stock repurchases, etc.

not directed at you but there are a lot of people out there who think there are a group of old white men sitting in a room putting the money in their private safes. LOL

Nothing but doom and gloom and it's still one of the most profitable businesses on the planet.

I still call shenanigans on all of this.

They're also the 5th largest company in the world. Are they not supposed to turn a profit?

I know, I was joking because I knew what you meant. To be fair thought most of the stockholders probably are older white men.
