You must have done alot of work this AM coming up with this number. Took me several weeks to compile the data from the tax assessors office and thru public records requests.

Was that for a TBR presentation? Why would a nomral MAGA Joe submit public records requests?

Really hope Baton Rouge changes it's tune and Exxon remains a vibrant employer. Would like to see Louisiana do well.

Wut?
You are in every one of these threads relishing in BR and LA going to hell while cheering for the people to ditch for Texas.

I don't think it's unfair to say that 60% of the value (or whatever the actual percentage is) was NEVER on the tax rolls. It's never gotten taxed or getting taxed. What is being taxed after 10 years is the residual value of those improvements.
If you have 100 million of investment, and 40 million value after 10 years, then yes, that 60 million has never been and will never be subject to property tax under the old rules. Not deferred. Never there.

You said never on the tax rolls, not me. Is it possible I have access to information you don’t? Jones asked what you do for a living and why such a self professed MAGA would be worried about producers? In fact, trying to make sure that far and away EBR’s largest taxpayer pays more, to the point of making a public records request? That is exactly the opposite of a conservative.
I guess you think we should do away with the homestead expemption too then? Although I seriously doubt you are a homeowner in EBR, if you are, surely you don’t think you shouldn’t have NEVER paid taxes on the first $75,000 of your home’s value? Obviously the schools aren’t getting their full share from you, with $75,000 having never been on the tax rolls. Or roles. You don’t like the current system and want meaningful tax reform, then take all your self professed extensive contacts and connections and push for tax reform. You are cherry picking at one piece and ignoring all others and therefore, the total picture. Why not just admit you’re another hired hack supporting or working for TBR, and it will make the dialogue easier and I’ll quit wasting my time.

Maybe you meant to respond to someone else.

Absolutely. We have the highest homestead exemption in the country. Get rid of it, or lower it to 25K. That will allow local school boards, for example, to raise more local money. Then, cut the state's MEP formula dramatically. Then, cut state income and sales taxes.
You know, kinda like what Texas does.

Again, I don't think you mean to send that to me, as I don't have self professed contracts. I have a few, as it is, and many of us do try to push for reform. It's hard. the current system gives a few people a lot of power that they don't want to give up.
Any small government conservative should want a wide tax base with low rates and few exemptions. Government should not be playing favorites or needing to give bribes for companies to come here. Run the goddamn government correctly, have a reasonable tax and regulatory system and it won't be needed.

Look across all of LA and tell me where you're seeing O&G new money coming in outside of Lake Charles. Hell, even these most recent ITEP applications for Exxon were simply maintenance ordeals. No new jobs IIRC.
You might want to look up the expansions DOW completed in the last 5 years. Not insignificant. Not in EBR though.

Yeah, but that’s just some nationally recognized endowed professor at LSU. He obviously doesn’t know as much as Mr. Heck. Who isn’t a homeowner in EBR, pays no taxes in EBR, but wants to cast stones at those that do pay taxes to EBR. Mr. Heck, what parish do you reside in? How is your parish leadership dealing with ITEP? Maybe you should focus your attention in your own backyard and stay out of mine.

Yeah, Exxon is a paying client of Loren Scott.
Not knocking his credentials. He's pretty solid, I just don't blindly take the word of someone who's paid to espouse the company line.

Why not? There’s been plenty of shots taken at the company by people being paid by the other side. And I’d say someone with Dr. Scott’s credentials and his willingness to defend this study and respond to questions arising out of it give it pretty solid credibility.

There have been lots of expansions and there are new construction projects on the books up and down the river here. So you are correct.

Hell no!
Cause in Louisiana you know they would forget to drop the income tax.

FWIW, Broderick Baggert (of TBR fame) has a Masters degree from London School of Economics. Does that make him an expert too?
Or just another paid shill, like Loren Scott?
Is Scott right and Baggert wrong? Or is it vice versa? Or is the right thing to read both sides and formulate an informed opinion on an issue?
Posted on 1/23/19 at 10:46 am to topdollarbill
Has Baggert refuted any of Dr. Scott’s assertions? In writing? Maybe you can publish them here so people can compare and draw their own conclusions.
I forgot to ask, are you a homeowner in EBR?

I reside in EBR Parish, in an area that hopefully becomes the City of St George.

Industrial sales. Primarily along the Hwy 30 corridor and towards St James / St John areas.
Sometimes I'm in Honeywell and Formosa areas, rarely am I in Exxon Refinery. We do some business with Exxon Chemical from time to time.
What do you fellas do for a living?
