I just spent some time on the build your own page and there are a lot of options. I'll be really interested when they get the prices up to get an idea of what the "standard" build will cost.

I read that pricing will be announced August 15. The build configurator has a ton of available options. I'm curious if that means GM has gone the "Porsche" way of pricing on options.

Looks like the 1LT doesn't come with the lift system which is available on the 2LT and 3LT. On a car like that the 2LT and up would be a lot more desirable just from that 1 feature

Heckuva car. I think you mentioned you had good luck with Jags, I am still scared to death of them.

Have we heard any more about the rumored mid-engine J type?

My wife always jokes that with Porsche a steering wheel and tires are options...

Looking at the interior alone I bet most will be 3LTs and a big chunk will be Z51 packages. I expect the early buyers will be well below the Vette median age and will be more interested in performance so the Z51 package will be a must for them plus you get 5 more hp!!!

I haven't.

Pretty sure that BMW and Jaguar are going to share whatever their next hot rod engine is though

Looks like the first year of the c8 will be a collector's car since it's almost sold out already. Who needs to spend 500k on a Ford GT when the first year C8 Vette will be 400k cheaper?

PLYMOUTH, Mich. — The 2020 Chevy Corvette is just about booked up for the first year’s production run. Michael Simcoe, GM design chief, said as much at the Concours d’Elegance of America, as a gleaming C8 sat on the lawn.

“I think the orders have already hit the first year of production numbers,” Simcoe said when addressing the attentive, large crowd at the golf course. We pulled him aside afterwards, and asked Simcoe to elaborate. Turns out, the C8 is extremely close to being sold out for the 2020 model year, but it hasn’t officially hit the mark yet. “It’s nearly sold out. It’s so close that it’s bound to be sold out soon,” Simcoe told us

quote:

What Simcoe wouldn’t elaborate on were production numbers. Chevy has been allowing folks to reserve a 2020 Corvette via an online registration process, and it was also something folks could do right on the Concours grounds today. We don’t know how many Corvettes Chevy plans on selling for the C8’s first year of production. Therefore, we also don’t know how many reservations have been placed thus far. Corvette sales numbers have bounced around a lot throughout history, but it’s surpassed 30,000 sales in many of the better years the model has been around. It’s unclear at this point if Chevy is targeting high sales numbers like that in the first year of the mid-engine car

Hopefully, anything wrong will get uncovered in the first lot so that I can buy with confidence

I can't imagine it being a short term collector's car (outside the first one produced and the first one sold to the public) compared to the GT. In the entire run of the second gen GT there are 1350 planned compared to probably 20 times that many first year C8s. Now obviously early buyers will be able to flip them for a profit but that doesn't make it collectible. The first gen GTs are selling for roughly twice the original price after 12 years the only way the C8 gets to that level is if GM stops production for some reason.

Agree, @ 30,000+ cars, it wont ever be exclusive enough to bring high money.

Given that is a hot item, that will definitely help 1st year resale.

When the C5 first came out, a lot of guys were driving it for a year and then selling it for close to what they paid.

For being around $60k it's a hell of a deal. Future performance models will be interesting to see.

First year, brand new model, mid engine change. I would wait 5 years minimum before buying.

Unlike him, I had the worst luck with my Jag XJL. Had it 3 years. In that time the A/C & touchscreen control board went out, but the almost $3K in repairs were under warranty. Then less than a year later the A/C was going in and out right out of warranty, but wouldn’t act up when I’d bring it to the dealer. Then my passenger side carpets were soaked. Ended up being a plastic A/C drain part that melted because it is too close to the transmission. $35 part, but they had to remove the dashboard, center console, and seats to reach it. $3,800 bill, again just out of warranty (due to mileage, not years). Of course, they replaced it with the same plastic part - no upgrade to something that won’t melt again. For me, that’s unacceptable on a 3 yr. old $85K+ car.

The second I got it back I traded it in on my new ‘19 Grand Sport. I recently drove a relative’s F-type R, and it was awesome. But no way in hell was I buying another Jag. And it’s a shame because they make beautiful cars. My Jag is still sitting on their lot 3months later listed at $1,600 less than they gave me for it on trade. That dealer gave me $5,000 more on trade than the other dealers would - their mistake.
