A friend lives by it and spoke with an employee of SWB who said the exhaust stack for Turbine No. 5 blew up. I'm pretty sure that one is a gas turbine generator set. Only in New Orleans does anyone call a generator set a turbine.

That’s funny because I was literally under the turbine, that blew up, putting out small flames. The stack didn’t blow up, the pressure from the turbine blew the seams of the stack. As described in the pictures I posted on page 2.

Only people that are speaking of gas turbine generators. A gas turbine is natural gas fired and not unlike a huge jet engine. The exhaust gases spin the turbine that's connected to the alternator. Lots of plants have these.

Also, who the frick calls generator sets, turbines, other than SWB? I've bought and sold far to many and never heard them called that, often steam turbine generators or gas turbine generators but never ever just turbines.

I think he's assuming you are a S&WB employee that was there when the turbine became light and noise and not a fireman who responded to it.

People who work at power plants? We literally call one of the main levels of our plant the "turbine deck," and that is definitely where the AC power gets generated.
