Excel/Math question

I have a number range from 2.58 to 5.88, the lower value should be ranked the highest. I want to put this range on a 1 to 100 scale.

Example 2.58 equals 100 and 5.88 equals 1, and the numbers in between falling somewhere in the range.

I'm dumb, appreciate the help

I know the formula for descending rank is =A1*100/max value, but i need the inverse

Change your number range to be from 1 to 100 and you’re golden.

You want to rank it?

Formula for that

=RANK(number being ranked, range of numbers being ranked,1)

The 1 value will reverse rank it so the lowest number is ranked highest.

Edit: your edit made what you want clearer. My post probably isn't what you need.

Any more info? How many numbers in the range? What's the significance of the 1-100 scale?

=(x-2.58)/(5.88-2.58)*99+1

Make a column that goes from 1 to 100

B1 will then be

=5.88 + 3.3*(A1-1)/99

Pull that formula down

700 numbers in the data set, 1 to 100 is arbitrary. I have several other columns with vastly higher values and trying to value them the same

What not convert everything to percent values?

My formula above is generalizable for any number of samples (n)

It’s just be instead of dividing by 99 at the end, divide by n-1

PercentRank might help.

However, would figuring out the standard deviation make more sense, especially if trying to compare vastly different sets of data?
