my old employer has reunions and loves for former employees to come back

I invite several of my former employees to our christmas parties each year. I talk to a good bit of them when I see them around, even ones I have fired.

I try to make it known that business is business and I might let someone go even if I like them if they are good employees on my jobs.

Yes.

Catch up with them after work, like at a chilis during happy hour.

shite, why not go back and rub it in?

Because I've moved on from that time in my life. I could go back there and be like "hey remember how shitty our boss was and how I went to HR on my last day and reported all his wrongdoings?" but there's no reason to live in the past like that. Looking back on it today, I'm less than proud that I did that. It just makes me realize I stooped down to his level and became just as petty as he was and it quite possibly led to his firing and that makes me disappointed in myself. I've heard he landed on his feet elsewhere but still, that was a man with a wife and kid that eventually lost his job quite likely due to my pettiness and I'm not proud of that. I should have just moved on to my next gig and let him be. I now just try to just learn from my time there and move on.

I can't go back, Verizon bought us out and shut us down, besides I was the last hourly employee left in the place when we closed the doors, but on to bigger and better things.

Retired a few years ago. Had worked there 20+ years. Made some good friends.
I stop by a couple of times a year. Usually bring beef jerky, or turkey cheese or boudin from Bourgeois Meat Market. Sometimes Mr. Ronnie’s donuts. Depends which way I’m coming from.
They seem happy to see me!

We have a couple of old employees that show up from time to time to chat.

It's never seemed awkward except for the time or two we were trying to quote some projects that particular day so we told them they had to get the frick out.

After I quit my last job I used to drive by sometimes at lunch to see if anyone was outside to talk to. I would always think "I hope I don't run into so-and-so and this person and that person". Finally I asked myself who DO you want to run into. I couldn't think of anyone so I quit doing it. LOL!

My 1st job out of college was a medium sized company that I worked at for about four years. I used to stop by 1-2 times/year to visit, did that for about a decade after leaving. My old boss retired and then I stopped visiting.

I go by to visit at a couple of former places of employment just to make things awkward. If you left amicably, no problem.

My restraining order prevents me from going within 1000 feet of my old employers office.
