I actually say this to my friends every so often. It probably goes through my head every couple days.
Seems glorious, but I think I would get tired of it after a while.

This is true. I've been traveling and researching islands for several years now and an "American business owner friendly" island is a top priority.

If I go the part time resident avenue I won't own a business.

Waiter that served us in Glacier National Park in Montana works there the four months of the year it's open up there then road trips it down with his fiance and hops on a plane to the Virgin Islands and waits tables there. They don't have much but they say they love it

Tons of young people doing this on St. John. They bust their asses but I'll bet play time is fun.

All the time; it's known as a fantasy.

Is there anywhere on the mainland where one could have similar experiences? I don't want to go to Montana, and my SO doesn't seem to be too thrilled about strictly island lifestyle, so we're discussing it to try and find some common ground. She wants to GTFO as well, and is looking at places like Oregon.

Depends on what you want. For me the Keys would work possibly but I'm older and more established and going to a place where I have to have a job isn't a priority. For you it might be different.
I'd look at the work that you want to do and the activities you enjoy and look for somewhere that provides balance between those two.

all the time. The other day I was thinking about what if I started over and became the MC at Cat's Meow...then my friend said if I would do it, she would quit her job and come be a shot girl at Cat's Meow.
Here's a good article I read the other day in regards to married folks wanting to give it all up:

Ambergris Kaye Belize. It was kinda like being in the florida keys. Lots of Americans live there.

Went there last year. Good call but the problem is that I really didn't like it there. Roatan rates nuch higher for me.
