I'm considering moving back towards Slidell in a few months - BR rent/insurance is absurd, traffic sucks, crime all over the place, etc. I'll feel better in methland.

Why not move to west St. Tammany (Mandeville, Madisonville, Covington, etc.)? While the Slidell has gone downhill comments are overblown, it certainly has declined and doesn't seem to be improving anytime soon.

I currently live in New Orleans, but my parents still live in the town I did 7th through graduation.

Every now and then I run into people, but most of the time we just ignore each other.

I left Beaumont when I was 18 for LSU. My parents moved to Houston at same time although I still had/ have aunts, uncles and cousins there. I had a desire to move back for a few years in my early 20s but thank god I got over that. No desire to go back now. Its been 10 years since I even went back to visit and that was for my uncles funeral.

I grew up in Baton Rouge and moved to Florida (military)around 20. Now moving to Washington St by choice for the next 3 years. I have no urge of moving back home. Every time I bring the family back to visit it's depressing for some reason. I think I will call Florida "home" when I retire.

Could never live in Vegas again. The Californians/Liberals/Democrats/Illegals have ruined it.

I would tell you to follow the dream you share with your family. Dont feel obliged or constrained by any relative or influence. It's your life you make with your wife and kids... Dont get suckered by guilt or money. Wills and Estates sometimes are used as leverage but at end of day, God blessed YOU with your WIFE and YOUR KIDS.... anything less than that is someone else's Blessing.... sorry

Born and raised in St Tammany (Mandeville). Family on both sides goes back there for generations. I last lived there in the late 80's. You could not pay me to live there now with all of the transplants, yupies who want to change it to suit their needs, the traffic, the neighborhoods and all that.

Saddens me to see what it has become. It is not even the same beautiful place that it once was.

I think ideally we'd prefer not to live in the same town, but probably within a couple hours where we don't have to take several days off work to even make the trip worth it....

Thinking about it.

But at the very least, I'll have my ashes scattered on the lake I grew up on.

So one way or another, I'll end up there.

The town I knew is gone. Schools turned into Ghettos. Old neighborhood went down hill.
The Baton Rouge I knew 25 years ago when I left is no longer there. I miss the people, culture, food and fishing everyday but its now defunct. Everyone I knew moved away to Denham or out of state completley.

I've only been gone about ten years but totally agree

Yeah, I hear you.

Grew up in Houston. After A&M, I lived in Houston again, then SW VA, Memphis, San Antonio, then Austin for longer than anywhere else, and then like a decade later, Houston again. I thought I'd like being "home", but I realized that for all its terrible "freeways", fascist government, and hipsters, that Austin had really become home. Got the chance to move back and did it. Sometimes "home" can change. I even considered Portland for a big change, but when I went there I discovered that the city is awesome but the people suck. Just sort of lazy, disconnected, and rude. For all their pretentiousness, Austinites are frequently type A go-getters and have southern-ish manners.

I'm from St. Amant. No one ever truly leaves. I still hang out with my closest high school friends every week

Grew up in Nashville and left in 2003 to go to LSU. Graduated, stuck around in BR for a few years, then New Orleans for a few more, then moved back to Nashville in late 2014. I even live in the same neighborhood I grew up in. I work at the family business, which I swore growing up that I'd never do. Just kind of got sucked back in. I don't regret it at all.

Moved back three months ago, but was only gone a little over two years. Surprisingly enough, I don't mind ir as much as I thought I would.

Kinda nice.

Not quite. I grew up in Belle Chasse, live in Arabi now (wife's hometown). Would not be opposed to move back to BC, but also would not go out of my way either.
