Had about 4 or 5 close calls today..usually average about 2 a trip going from Avondale to Livonia or Livonia back to Avondale..dump trucks are the worst..there are some crossings between Plaquemin and Addis that have sensors on the tracks for the red lights at the intersections and when we get close the lights turn green to clear the road out for the gates to come down..people don't pay attention to tracks at red lights and just sit on top of the tracks waiting for the light to change then they see us coming and they start getting nervous trying to pull up to get out of the way..it's funny to see panic in their eyes as we get closer and closer and then the lights change and they get out of the way right before we pass..

We can get license plate numbers, make and model of vehicle and description of people driving and turn it in and the individuals get tickets in the mail for going around gates..i always wondered what it was like to receive that letter in the mail and how much that ticket is.

Saw a train hit a semi once, that was a fricked up situation. Used to jump on them all the time as a kid to travel the city.

I haven't, but my parents were hit by one once. Not sure exactly how it happened, train was obstructed by some bushes or something. They survived with minor injuries.

Not me, but my wife has had plenty of intimate instances with trains.

Edit ...

Please delete. Misinterpreted meaning of word.

I was born and raised in New orleans where trains go like ten miles an hour and every crossing has a gate and lights.

When I was 18 or 19 I visited a guy from my dorm that lived in Luling. This was about 40 years ago and to me Luling was smack-dab in the middle of nowhere.

It was dark when I left there and I was just about to drive over what I thought was just a big bump or mound or something in the road when all of a sudden I saw that it was train tracks and there was a train hauling fricking arse right towards me.

I really don't know if I heard it or saw it first but I slammed on the brakes and it missed me by about a foot it seemed like.

I literally shite myself.

The airport tram is not considered a train.

Here's a good video of a near miss in Baton Rouge: LINK

My job involves dealing with train crews. I think most people would be surprised by how often they hit vehicles. It's pretty much a weekly/monthly thing between BR and Hammond.

There's one like this on the westbank when you take the shortcut to get to the Huey P Long Bridge.

theres woods right there too so you can't see down the track until you're almost right on it.
