You don't think heavier vehicles take a higher toll on the road? Ever take a science class?
1. His point is most EVs on the road are sedans which are lighter than the most popular ICEs which are trucks and SUVs
2. A 6k lb vehicle does about the same damage as a 4k lb vehicle, which is zero. Road damage is caused by weather, time, and vehicles that exceed the road's limitations.

That is changing daily, you know that, right? These full size trucks and SUV's will be heavier than their ICE counterparts.

Most roads are designed to hold semis. A vehicle weighing 10,000 lbs does a similar amount of damage as a bicycle. It's the difference in being shot with a thousand BBs vs 1 bullet.

Of course they will find a way to tax. So I don’t agree. If anything, find a way to tax at the recharge stations, which would be more fair. Is recharging free or does one have to use a cc?
Here in Louisiana our gas certainly are not keeping up our roadways. There should be no gas or EV tax. Drive through Nola and even Metairie these days and see how long your suspension holds up. That is, if you can even get down a street in Nola.

If you put thousands of vehicles that weigh 500lbs more on roads daily, it will eventually cause issues. I get you are an EV enthusiast, and that is fine, but let's be honest here.

quote:No, it won't. The daily temperature cycling from day to night causes orders of magnitude more damage to roads than cars that weigh hundreds or even thousands of pounds more but which are still far below the limit that the road can hold.

quote:It's not about honesty, it's about the science you mentioned. Roads are designed for 80k lb semis. Whether a million 5k lb or a million 10k lb vehicles traverse it, the damage and wear and tear will be essentially the same and mostly negligible.

Also, so this person never takes road trips? That’s a small world to exist in.
It's my world. I never drive a car more than an hour. If it's father than that I'm flying. I don't own an EV, but I plan to get one in about another six months. I will never use a public charging station. It will charge in my garage at night.

Passenger vehicles aren't the problem. CMV are. Except in La where people might actually be fat enough to damage the roads based on my observations driving through and the state of the roads.

One or two. Math is hard, as shown by many in this thread.
