More of a respect thing than anything. I won't go in my SO's purse at all. Just like I wouldn't want her to go into my wallet. Money will make you fallout like never before.

It's because there is the entire content of three kitchen drawers, two shelves full of heels, and enough Qtips and makeup brushes to start a career as a makeup artist on the fly inside of a single purse. That's why they get handed to you.

So is it also more of a respect thing when husbands ask, after failing to locate something in plain view, "can you just get the (blank) from the kitchen, bathroom, closet, shelf, etc? I don't see it or know where it is." Because it seems like men just play ditzy so that they can be the damsel in distress sometimes.

My GF thinks I'm barely competent.

100% a respect thing not rifling through the purse, and this man you are having these interactions with may just be dumb, I basically always know where everything is and my wife certainly has no clue if I don't.

no he's pretty smart in other ways. He's able to think abstract and big picture, understanding intangible concepts like I never could. But ask him to visualize something or picture an end result while you describe it, and you may as well be speaking Sanskrit to him.

Judging from other responses here, sounds like he's not alone in his "looking like a man" routine.

my wife will do the same thing, but trying to find keys in her purse is like finding a needle in a haystack. I generally keep my stuff where it belongs, but she will move something and cannot remember where she put it.

This may be the main difference. If I lose my phone or keys, I search the house and find them, most likely without her ever knowing. If she loses them, I spend 20 minutes helping her look

'Help' is always needed for some reason on any type menial task.
