Uh. What?

We will stop extracting a resource because it isn't economically feasible looonng before we run out, and if it's that important, economically feasible extraction will continue to get better.

It doesn't even make sense. The two bars are "if production grows" and "if production remains static". If it remains static, we'll never run out by definition

not entirely accurate. Consumption isn't necessarily static.

So Energy companies are just going to fold when oil from the earth is starting to run out? Hell no! They are businesses when the earth starts running out of oil you will know because Shell, Exxon, BP, etc. will start creating viable alternatives. They are not just going to say: "Oh well it was a good run" and close shop.
What about recycling? We recycle everything now is this chart taking that into consideration?

We won't know from this chart because they are either liars or inept.

I would hazard that they have an agenda and for this reason they are inept liars.

Sort of right. They just get to the point where they are not worth extracting. And for the flat earth cornucopians, something like 40 of 54 oil producing countries are past peak production.

The shot in the arm in the U.S. from unconventional sources is nice, but will be short lived.

EIA has some of the more optimistic scenarios.

Dan Brown's Inferno says the same thing...we need to have a population reduction event.

Actually, there's a frickton of a lot of that in North America. However, due to some wrongheaded policies, it cannot be exploited.

"Run out" means we are not production no longer occurs, I.e. We don't have any more to produce (not producing at the same rate for sure). And by economic definition supply (production) and consumption (demand) are always in equilibrium. As others have said, worst case is prices get out of control.
