5.8 million more than he would have ever earned, especially considering his plethora of health issues.

Guy would not have lived more than 5 more years.

it's amazing this story came out right about the same time the reinstatement thread came out.

hopefully they do the right thing and invest 100% of that money into helping the growth and improvement of the impoverished black communities in the area

why? What is the point of this other than keeping their name in the papers? Take your settlement, move the frick on.

Gonna be a lot of angry crackers up in here who would be cheering loudly if it were the family of a murdered white man who took NYC to the bank.

Sharpton really has no shame

What are the odds he uses his cut to pay back the IRS?

Honestly can't say I disagree with any monetary settlement in that case.

Sorry, Gentleman.

The just high balling bullshite. They weren't going to get that much money ever.

NYC was going to lose this case. It was more of a question of how much.

quote:

I understand that $6M in NYC isn't the same as $6M in Baton Rouge, but that's a shite ton of money to settle that case for.

It really depends on the city, the methods employed by police, and the mindset of the judge/jurors. Basically if it had happened in Baton Rouge, they would of probably of gotten like 1/5th. You also have to consider the media circus around this thing.

quote:

In February, the city paid $15 million to settle a class-action suit filed in 2005 against the police on behalf of 22,000 New Yorkers charged with loitering from 1983 to 2011 -- in violation of a law declared unconstitutional in 1992.
