They are one of the few fabricators fully staffed with welders.
I’m sure companies that specialize in O&G materials pay better, but most ‘shop’ fabrication welders aren’t making great money from what I’ve seen like mobile welders and other jobs . It’s something like $25-30/ hour and that’s usually toward the high end, I’m sure if in O&G they have all the OT they want but still.

Fab shops have gone to crap since Covid. It was easy to find a shop hungry for work and capable of rebuilding or modifying equipment. Since then instead of using their heads and getting a $25 part from Grainger, they have the whole supply chain bureaucracy which will take a few days and cost way more. Another thing is just cut a frozen pulley off instead of spending an entire day trying to remove it without any damage.
It seems like anyone with any brains retired in 2020 all that remains are numbnuts

Nah - the shops aren’t the problem. They are all super busy doing more lucrative work than rebuilding and modifying. The few shops that are slow, are slow because they suck. Charge too much, don’t invest in their people and equipment, and deliver late. Any shop with a half assed crew is making bank and has been for the last 5 years.
