Equipment Fabrication Shop Orders

I spoke with one firm today to get a quote on a replacement hydrotreater reactor. They are turning away orders and booked solid through the end of this year.
They fabricate pressure vessels, columns and reactors for Oil field, Midstream, Refining and Chemical. They are one of the few fabricators fully staffed with welders. Most have worked for the company 30+ years

For a short period of time I was in charge of the vending machines at the location in Morgan City. Y’all went through a metric shite ton of grinding wheels.

High oil prices is usually good for the industry as a whole in the states, not just oil and gas. Most are making tons of money right now which is a huge shift from just six months ago

Bruh, treater reactors are booked out 36-60 weeks. You aren’t getting 2.5/5/9cr vessels from American vendors unless it’s something really tiny.
If you want to feel better contact Tosto or Topsoe overseas and let me know what their lead time is.
Put your email on here, I know a shop that does vessel fab in Asia but duplicates all QA, hydros, and vets it once it lands in America so it can be sold with American “warranty”.

I can't remember the name but we use to get chemical manufacturing equipment for pilot use from an industrial surplus place (bone yard).
If it was a reactor it had inspection and x-ray certificates as well as eddy current results for exchangers.

already covered it was courtesy call to them because they helped me out with drawings on existing before.
Propane tanks and Hydrotreater reactors are two different animals, the later with 347 weld overlay on chrome moly steel.
BTW, Triarc (formerly Trinity Steel) is still the king of land propane tank fabrication and they are in Mexico but no tariff because they use steel made in the USA. Sales are effective at Eagle Pass, TX.

I can get the steel delivered in 12 weeks and work to commence immediately in the Houston Metro area from other fab shops. Topsoe provides technology and catalyst. Usually someone else makes their internals.
This was a comment on how booked fab shops are in the US right now. Most of the fab shops I have dealt with can only do 50% of their capacity due lack of welders. So they turn away work

What heavy fab calls tin knocker fabrication per the projects on the website.

I buy and sell such. I have a yard in Houston. Hydrotreater reactors for refineries are not the same as chemical reactors.
Now if you want a 200 to 10,000 316L or Alloy 20 with coils, I have reactors for you about to be released to me.

Yeah we have a 1.5 year backlog but it is a handful of mega projects. We aren't seeing thr small stuff as much as we used to.

6 to 9 month backlog as a rule the last several years for refining equipment.

Those damn things turned sooooooo slow, and we had to beat the sh!t out of the window to get the honey buns to drop.

My partners and I lost a shite ton of money doing this when the vessel fabricator failed to deliver on time and we were stuck with liquidated damages. Maybe you have a history with these guys and they’ve proved trustworthy, but it would take a lot of convincing for me to try that again. Eventually we just opened a fab shop and got our pressure vessel stamps.

That dude thinks that a catalyst company makes chrome moly pressure vessels with SS overlay. They do design the internals.

I have to admit I don’t know WTF that is.

No problem. The shell is made of chrome moly steel (due temp rating of 750 deg) and a weld overlay of usually 347 stainless over wetted areas. The reactor uses hydrogen and catalyst to turn elemental sulfur and mercaptans into H2S, as well as nitrogen to ammonia. Either membrane filtration or amine removes these any excess hydrogen and gases from usually gasoline, diesel, kerosene or bottoms used in cat crackers or even cokers, there are some chlorides used to keep coking of the catalyst down. Since chlorides cause stress cracking in stainless steel, any sign in the overlay can be ground out and welding to replace what was ground out during turnarounds.
This is a small one weighing 42,000 lbs, per drawing. The OEM in Tulsa ain't there any longer. There a few in the Houston area who can. There used to be some great ones in CA such as C.F. Braun.
