re: Entergy under investigation for complaints of high utility bills

I’m not. Those guys are awesome. Most of the Entergy employees in my area are good people.
Linemen bust their asses, especially during outages working in terrible conditions around dangerous equipment. They earn every penny of that money.

But I do get frustrated when my electricity goes out for hours on a sunny day without any wind. At least once monthly. May or may not be entirely an Entergy problem,
Most of the time it isn’t. Poles get hit, trees fall down, etc. it happens a ton and more often than your could possibly imagine.

but Louisiana needs to bury a lot of those power lines.
Couple of things:
Burying power lines is, in most cases, absurdly cost prohibitive. Most of your utility right of ways are already filled with gas, water, and phone lines. Power has a ton of requirements for underground and the cable itself is substantially more expensive. Doing it in a brand new subdivision with nothing else in the ground is one thing. And that doesn’t even get to distribution lines, which I don’t believe it’s possible to encase due to a bunch of engineering reasons.
Transmission lines as your see them are cheap, easy to run, and easy to fix. Car hits a pole and takes it out and the linemen can have a new pole and the lines fixed in a few hours. You end up with a short in an underground line, you have to locate it, cut concrete and conduit, etc.
quote:
Or trim their damn trees.
100% not an Entergy problem. Tell your neighbors to stop bitching when they do try to trim trees. Or stop growing trees in the right of way. Entergy isn’t letting trees grow around power lines out of laziness. It’s why after any major storm you’ll see the trucks out cutting trees like crazy as there’s usually less people complaining about it.

We barely even do that. Because Louisiana doesn’t plan for shite. We can’t even get a fricking canal dug out even though they’ve been collecting taxes to do it for 15 years.
ETA: It’s pretty obvious that you work for Entergy. If you are on the operations side...thank you for your service. You guys do solid work and probably deserve a raise.
If you work in their back office and are responsible for billing....you need to find a more honest living. The kind of shite you guys pull is begging for increased regulatory attention. That’s going to suck for everyone, so knock this shady bullshite off.

Good point. It doesn’t help that Louisiana gets a lot of violent weather that weakens and breaks a lot of trees.

I bet your one of those people that bitches because the linemen aren’t out in the middle of a hurricane trying to get your power back on
I live in Texas where we run our lines underground like smart folks so wind/rain/ice/snow don't bother them BAW
I haven't lost power at my home for more than 10 minutes in 15 years.

I’m jealous.
You’d need a Generac contract if you live in Louisiana outside of East Baton Rouge or Jefferson Parish. Everyone else loses power all the darn time. Sort of like the Superdome a few years ago.

Oil prices affect gas prices, so natural gas price is affected. Entergy added a fuel surcharge when oil prices were between $80-100 to help offset rising prices. We have not seen oil prices that high in some time but we are still being charged the fuel surcharge, wonder why that was never questioned.

This is them making up for 2 big hurricanes this year
They are on the effing Gulf Coast. Why not have a hurricane fund for these guaranteed occurrences? They make huge profits every year, I don't understand how our services getting interrupted during storms equates to us having to pay a premium for new gear.

The more I compare my bill from this month to last month, makes me question Entergy more.
Jan bill meter reading - total days (34) - kWh Metered = 2588
Bill amount = $173
Feb bill meter reading - total days (29) - kWh Metered = 2429
Bill amount = $190
All of the usage on my Jan bill is more than my Feb bill, but the feb bill is higher.

Entergy is fricking laughable.

After the $150 increase on last month's bill, the next one comes in at $115 higher than my previous highest bill from 2020. I guess this extortion is here to stay. Can't wait to see my $500 summer bills...

f the Public Service Commission told WAFB he has directed the agency to investigate claims of Entergy bills nearly doubling.
No reason to investigate, everyone already knows why this is happening. The agency won't get a straight answer anyway.
quote:
if they are ever over charged they get their money back,
I wouldn't hold my breath on that outcome. That money is already spent.

Steady between $125-$150 here in Lake Charles. Whatever.

People weren’t working from home last winter and/or were away from their homes much more often. Spending the holidays at home does this. End of story.
Fewer large gatherings with family, less travel for vacation, less time out to a movie or a bar. Y’all get the idea.
Even something as simple as decorating your house a week or two early can have a big effect. I saw a ton of that this Christmas.
Practically lived at the deer camp. Was rarely home, and never turned on heat. Bill increased $58 dollars. Do not have gas.
Entergy uses December/January to give themselves a bonus every year. What the frick can we do about it?
