The city is trying to flood itself by running out it's tax base. Be mad at the people running the city, not some message board poster.

I can be mad at both. Baton Rouge has a lot of problems too but I would never wish the city to flood or have some horrible issue that affects the people that live there.

Vols is probably a good dude that would never say that in real life. He just follows the crowd here.

I agree, we already tried a flood. Maybe a fire will do it.

What was the name of that other power related company in BR

Maybe Dixie Electric Co-op (now DEMCO)?

Gulf States Utilities served most of BR, Dixie served the outlying areas.

Everyday New Orleans citizens don't realize how little leverage the city has on Entergy. Now the rest of LA and Texas, that is a different story. But New Orleans may as well be Venezuela to Entergy.

The city isn't helpless here, just incompetent and over-playing their hand.

It's literally the only city in the state that has sole regulatory power over it's electric monopoly.* Meaning even the state utility commission can't override the city's authority.

Which is why NOPSI/ Entergy New Orleans never got folded into LP&L/ Entergy LA.

And why so many people act like NOPSI was entirely controlled by the city, because it was. Even if it was a private company then, and not city-owned.

It might be peanuts to Entergy overall, but the city's leverage over those particular peanuts is plenty, because it's authority is all but absolute.

*Even cities with city owned grids or power companies don't have that level of control, because they still have to answer to the state commission.

It's a regulated Monopoly. Of course they have control of the "peanuts". Who cares about peanuts. They have spurred the mule too many times.

Yeah, eventually Gulf States Texas assets were moved into Entergy Texas, and the LA assets like Baton Rouge were moved into Entergy Louisiana.

I never knew this. Interesting

My grandfather (RIP) was a streetcar driver / bus driver for NOPSI back when they owned the transit system. When the decision was made to municipalize the transit system, with the idea that RTA was really going to be a regional system, he said, I'm not interested in being a government employee, so he retired.

But then Entergy transferred the pension plan for those employees as well, so he ended up getting his pension and health insurance through RTA, a government agency.

That used to really annoy him, LOL.

Don’t. Blame Entergy. They are finally tired of being the political football for the city council ! They should put ENO up for sale and see if anybody shows up ! Doubt it very seriously. Let the City take it over and see how quickly it goes bankrupt and begs for help from the state or feds ! New Orleans does a great job of running good things out of the City and then begging for help !

I'm sure Entergy NO is tired of the council and their crap... but let's not act like Entergy's other subs are bastions of competence.

Their entire corporate organization is a mess of incompetence.

About the only thing they do well is storm restoration and that's only because they bring in so much additional help.
