I want the driver looking forward rather than driving in mirrors.

Safety is the reason why they dont use close cab tractors or trucks....

Actually most of the routes that parades run have freshly paved streets. St Charles is newly
paved, as is Napoleon, most of canal, and many parts of magazine are as well

I wasn’t familiar with the routes.

One day I drove down Magazine street, and I thought I was driving on the moon in a lunar rover.

Also with today’s tech, couldn’t sensors be installed to automatically brake if a person gets to close or detects something or some one underneath. Some Cars have them now.

the pickup has side mirrors didn’t see that on any of the Endymion tractors
Rear view mirrors wouldn't have helped see someone that fell between tandem sections. I'd even think mirrors may make it less safe because of how many people crowd up close to the floats. Drivers would have a hard time seeing anything in a mirror until it was too late anyway because all they'd see in the mirror is a crowd of people waving their hands for beads and it would take their focus off the road ahead of them.

Can they not just rig kill switches on each section of float?

What needs to happen is that LaToya and everyone else needs to calm the frick down and realize that one drunk idiot woman and one freak accident doesn’t equal the need to upset the apple cart. Do nothing right now, let the “Safety Commission” have some meetings and make some simple recommendations and by then everyone will have forgotten.

This.

The floats aren't running people down. The two people who died fell directly in front of the wheels a tandem section.

The condition of Magazine by Audubon makes zero sense considering the rest of the street is largely in good shape.

And now, goddamn tractor ads are popping up in TD advertisement.

Where will it end LaToya?

Why do they stick with tractors for parades? It is not like trucks have become more reliable than tech that is so old

Tractors are more easily maneuvered than trucks. Also can see around them better.

quote:

places like Houma, they had to switch to trucks because once they built the twin bridges over the intracoastal the floats could no longer be pulled by tractors and trucks were used to replace tractors

This is completely false, first trqctirs have way more pulling power than trucks. Secondly, the tractor company wanted more money and the krewe didnt want to pay it

Source, I'm a driver in Houma

The tractors also were commercialized as they all came from M&L tractors in houma.

Only 2 houma parades are not pulled by Southland Dodge trucks. Krewe of Titans Na Krewe of Kajuns.

Lmao, that's cute. You think mirrors are useful to see around a 14 foot wide float?

Source, float driver in houma, with a truck with mirrors and cant see shite but the front corners of the float

Just approaching nanny state where a switch to trucks could stick someone in the passengers seat with an array of camera monitors. Hell it could save all the video to help with any other nonsense from riders and crowd.

You know, I'm sorry those people died.

But walking between tandem floats?

You can outlaw tandem floats all you want. There's no outlawing Darwin.

Thank you for clearing that information up.

I had always heard that it was the bridge for the reasoning behind the truck vs tractor issue. But I guess it all depends on money as being the underlying issue. Also, I guess tractors would have some safety factor as they are speed limited. I high doubt a tractor has the ability to go too fast.

Also, I know a lot of floats from New Orleans are rented in other areas and have to be pulled by truck since they are transported on the interstate. I would hate to see a caravan of floats being pulled by tractor on the interstate.

Do you realize the amount of crap that goes under a float during a parade? Riders wouldn't be able to stand they'd be stopping so much
