Do you even know what micro-manage means?
Its a smart way to find out if your employees are efficient or wasteful.

One time saw the Roto Rooter guy in the hood selling all the tools off his vehicle and then reported it stolen.

I own a service business and we have 5 vehicles on the road at any given time. We are trying to find an inexpensive tracking system. We thought about google plus location sharing, but that does not allow you to see much detail...Any ideas? Could be an app locally installed on a phone.
Yes, but I'm assuming they could be beaten. If it was me, I'd just get one of the tracking systems through Verizon.

I think if you call Angola they will let you in on how they manage their inmates that are allowed to drive the big rigs.

He has a service business, when a customer calls and needs one of his people it is much simpler to already know which one of his trucks is the nearest to the customer and call that employee rather than calling everyone to see where they are. This is common practice among large corporations with service fleets of several thousand. It has noting to do with employee trust, just using technology to provide better customer service and better utilize company assets.

It's a smart way to cut insurance costs. Imagine having driveright installed in your company vehicle in a place like Africa or India where there are basically no driving laws. People driving the wrong way on one way streets, not bothering to look before pulling onto the road, constant possibility of a head-on collision etc. Does it really matter if you are the person driving safe?

This is NOT for purposes of spying on my employee's. It has to do with efficiency and trying to see where everyone is for dispatching purposes. Thanks for the inputs so far. As for as policy...We are actually working through that right now. Good advice for sure.

Once upon a time, I drove a delivery van for a West Monroe company. I had a three-day, Monday-Wednesday swing through East Texas.
Well, one Wednesday, At my last stop in Texas, who shows up but the company owner and son. They had followed me for three days, checking up on my work. Apparently, this was their way of 'keeping me on my toes'.
I quit on Friday. frick that shite.

The Verizon offering is effective and cheap, ($29.00/month per vehicle).
It is VERY simple as in not sophisticated. It plugs into the OBDII port OR it can be surreptitiously mounted under the dash. Either application gives you any Idiot Light codes that come up on the vehicle as well as location speed and some driving behavior telemetry.
