Without EV cars, our power grid has shown failure. Some areas it's damn near annually.

To put it simply, Bill Gates "borrowed" $500M in Tesla stock and sold it off, with the hopes that he can re-purchase at a lower cost when he must return the stock. He made a $500M bet against Tesla. In the current short position he has an obligation to re-purchase and return said stock at value, but hasn't yet, because he is waiting for it to drop.
