While not technically a vaccine, this has shown promise in a few patients in China and one in New Jersey. And this is something that could be mass produced and available in weeks, not 12-18 months for a "real" vaccine.

Elon musk an expert in this field?

Edit: sounds like he just tweeted someone else's work as a "might work," not really a recommendation.

I've been posting academic papers and reports from Korea and China about how those 2 countries have used hydroxychloroquine very effectively.

No one cares so I just shitpost now.

Well, if we can mass produce this stuff and get the rest of the country back to work, that sounds like a great idea to me. He is an engineer, I don't give a damn about if he has an MD or not. He's all about solving the world's biggest problems.

I’ve read up on this. So far I’ve only seen that it helps advanced stages of the disease not early on as I had hoped. Had anyone seen anything to the contrary?

Plaquenil (hydroxychkoroquine) has shown good results in in vitro studies. Viral suppression and reduction in cytokine response. Definitely worth looking into.

Hydoxychloroquine > Chloroquine

Less toxic, and in the limited data we have on treating it, it did about same.

But yes our hospital ordered a good bit it, in case it becomes part of protocol

You give me a fixed budget and X days to solve a problem, and you can choose Elon Musk or the US Federal Government, i'm choosing Elon Musk every day of the week. Look at the cost of the SLS rocket versus the Starship rocket for example.

There's not good literature driving any of this. Just case reports here and there. Will be something to consider but chloroquine has hazardous side effects as well.

Recent guidelines from South Korea and China report that chloroquine is an effective antiviral therapeutic treatment against Coronavirus Disease 2019. Use of chloroquine (tablets) is showing favorable outcomes in humans infected with Coronavirus including faster time to recovery and shorter hospital stay. US CDC research shows that chloroquine also has strong potential as a prophylactic (preventative) measure against coronavirus in the lab, while we wait for a vaccine to be developed. Chloroquine is an inexpensive, globally available drug that has been in widespread human use since 1945 against malaria, autoimmune and various other conditions.

Neither deliver on time or within budget, so....

ETA: shel won't be happy you're encroaching on his perch on Musk's nuts
