NASA has always said it's a 9 month trip to Mars one way. Space X thinks they can cut that to 6 months. That would make it about a year long trip. They've always talked about putting the astronauts in sort of a hibernation state. It's a pretty wild venture.

He said start in 4 years not that it will take that long to get there. The above poster is right it will be around nine months.

Hasn't he made this prediction before?

Would love to see it and Elon is the guy to drive it to happen, however, you have to be cautious of his timeline claims.
He claimed full self driving was a year away, every year, from 2016 to 2022. He acknowledged setting unrealistic timelines in his biography.

It's amazing how ignorant you can be in one short post. Seriously, go sit in the corner with your crayons and bicycle helmet. You're not qualified to participate in society with the rest of us.

The Mars stuff has always been Exhibit A for why Musk is FOS.

Space missions are like Davey Jones locker; the real problem is not getting there, it's getting back.

Why?
His rocket company is at least 15 years ahead of the rest of the world in technology and infrastructure. He may not make the first window to Mars in 2 years but the next on in 4 years is basically a lock.

Zip2 - 100% created
Paypal - Created separate pay platform that was part of merger and actually got 55% of merged company
Tesla, you can say that he bought in and the company was already established, but he 100% pushed the partnership, development, and design of the roadster along with how they were manufactured and the likes.
SpaceX - 100% created
Boring Company - 100% created
Neuralink - 100% created
Twitter, yes, he bought the company, but he never claimed to invent. Said it was a great foundation for a single platform that he always envisioned
You can even give him credit for helping start OpenAI which led to ChatGPT if you want.

I feel they've been saying this for 20 years now

Investing in something is a whole lot different than being the genius behind the technology.
Edison created the light bulb.
Bell created the telephone.
Whitney invented the cotton gin.
The Wright brother invented the airplane.
Musk is a dreamer but has never had the know-how to invent anything. He hires people who can make his dreams a reality. I mean, that's definitely a skill and it's made him a shite ton of money...but a creator? Nah.

The conditions on Mars are extremely incompatible with human survival. No magnetosphere. No oxygen. Radiation. Dust storms. The list goes on. Why would we want to go there?

Somebody is gonna put a chicfilaa up there that's why

Because we haven't been there yet. It's called exploration.

I think we're down to 6 years based on AOC's timeline.
