I'm going to let you in on a little secret, the upper body workout obtained via an elliptical is mostly non-existent. Your lower body is still doing the bulk of the work.
A little secret that is totally incorrect, NO THANKS.
View the video - the bottom picture on the left. If you can't see how incorrect your statement is, there is no hope for you. I own an elliptical machine - much like the one linked - and can use my arms as much or as little as wanted. Your secret is full of shite.
And yes, everyone knows the Mayo Clinic sucks when it comes to giving out information pertaining to health issues. Wonder they are still in business and there aren't saint amant steve clinics all over the world.
It seems like the biggest knock on the elliptical is that it is monotonous and boring. It is good that it is so quiet and I can have it in my living room and catch up on TV shows while working out. I don't see how an exercise bike where you are sitting down can be extremely more exciting.
I can see why you linked the crap you did. They probably overpaid for an exercise bike also and now hate other equipment that is better. I understand and can share condolences on this matter.
From WebMD which is also a secret but I will share with you:
"So instead of choosing the treadmill for the calorie-burning factor, or the elliptical trainer your friend recommended, figure out which machine feels best to you, he suggests. "What is it going to take to get you compliant?" he asks. "Everything else is secondary."
Nashville exercise physiologist Kathy Alexander agrees: "The best aerobic piece of equipment is the one you’re most willing to use," she says."
