Alexandria, it's finally happening! Olive Garden is coming to the city. I've been getting tons of messages and calls about Olive Garden possibly making its way to Alexandria. I called the Rapides Parish Clerk of Court and they confirmed a company filed paperwork to tear down the Johnny Carinos on MacArthur Dr. and build an Olive Garden. So, I called Venture Construction Comapny in Tennessee. They confirmed to me they will start on that project in a few weeks.

Suburban Gardens was the GOAT Italian restaurant when I lived in Alex in the 90s. Made the place livable.

Clearly not you. OG is still awesome considering it’s Louisiana and we don’t have any good Italian places

All jokes aside, of all the shitty chain restaurants around, I think Olive Garden is actually pretty good. It’s not top quality Italian obviously, but it’s decent.

It's a shame to see a big corporate chain like that moving into small towns replacing the local character of authentic Italian joints like Johnny Carino's.

They paved paradise and put up a parking lot.

Anthony Bourdain praised by food critic whose Olive Garden review he defended
quote:

Marilyn Hagerty was 85 when she was mocked over a positive review of the chain. The chef publicly came to her aid
quote:

Hagerty is a food columnist for the Grand Forks Herald. In 2012, when she was 85, she wrote positively about a new Olive Garden in the city, which she called “the largest and most beautiful restaurant now operating in Grand Forks”.

“The chicken Alfredo ($10.95) was warm and comforting on a cold day,” Hagerty wrote. “The portion was generous. My server was ready with Parmesan cheese.”

For her praise of the widely derided chain, Hagerty was subjected to widespread online mockery. Bourdain, one of the most famous faces in food journalism in the world, quickly came to her defence.

“Marilyn Hagerty’s years of reviews [are] a history of dining in the America too few of us from the coasts have seen,” he tweeted. “We need to see.” He went on to denounce the “snarkologists (myself included)”.

OG is a mid-tier chain restaurant and I'd never say they were amazing or anything other than what they are, but, I've always felt the "OG just microwaves all their food" meme is a self-own. Never mind the taste, if you can't tell the difference in consistency and texture between microwaved steak gorg or fet Alfredo and even a place like OG, you aren't the food authority you imagine yourself to be.
