all the survivors I ever met were the happiest people. Even when they told me stories about it they had a smile on their face and seemed almost eager to tell it. I guess once you've literally walked through hell the worst day is still nothing short of enjoyable.
Having their lives nearly ripped from them will do that.

So, didn't Madoff rip off his foundation?
Madoff certainly madoff with most of his money in his Ponzi scheme. I always thought that was the most ironic name for that guy considering what he ended up perpetrating.

I think he was actually needling bible thumpers a little bit here; could be wrong though but that's how I took it.

A great man to be sure, but I can never understand how he could be anti-gun. The following quote has been attributed to him.
'We couldn't have guns. The Nazis had all the guns. The answer is not having guns."
It makes no sense at all.

ManBearTiger, your comment is complete BS. His book, Night, was not a fabrication of his life. And he was certainly not a fraud. There was some initial question as to whether his book was semi fiction ( which does not make it not true) or autobiographical ) and both the N.Y. Times & Barnes & Nobles, to name only a few, came to accept his book as autobiographical. To say he did not live those experiences as detailed in his book is an insult to a great man. To call him a fraud runs to racism.

I think he means the answer is for no one to have guns, including the Nazis....

In a way, that is an admirable goal, I guess, but completely unrealistic. I would have thought someone who had been through the Holocaust would be more practical.
People like to think that if guns didn't exist we wouldn't have crime or mass killings by governments. Especially here in the US, some people say "That could never happen here".
There's only one reason it can't or won't happen here, and it has nothing to do with the supposed goodness of our political leaders. People in Germany thought old Adolf was on the right track and gave the country to him. When they found out what he was doing it was way too late to do anything about it.
