EBRSO: Man fires gun at SUV, hits 1 person after argument over chicken

A Baton Rouge man opened fire on an SUV with four people inside Saturday night, hitting one man, after an argument at a store, according to the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office.

The incident began about 8 p.m. Saturday inside a Greenwell Street store when a 29-year-old man requested freshly fried chicken from a store employee, and then the two got in an argument, according to the arrest report.

A third person, Kenneth Hunt, 38, who knew the store clerk, intervened and tried to physically attack the shopper, according to an arrest report.

The shopper and two people under 15 years old then left the store, but Hunt got a handgun from someone else in the store and fired multiple shots at the group's SUV, deputies said.

The 29-year-old man was reportedly shot, but deputies could not locate him. A 26-year-old was also in the SUV, but was uninjured, deputies said.

Hunt surrendered to deputies, according to his arrest report. The entire incident was captured on store video surveillance cameras.

Hunt, of 6625 Vineyard Drive, Baton Rouge, was booked into Parish Prison on four counts of attempted second-degree murder, and one count each of illegal use of a weapon, aggravated criminal damage to property and illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Deputies said Hunt was convicted of unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling in 2000 and simple burglary in 2004. He is not allowed to have a gun because of his prior felony convictions.
