Is that why I see so many “I love my library” yard signs now?

Why are BA/BS and MS/MA required?
used to be that if you had a degree you were considered somewhat educated - so wouldn’t you want someone that knows how to read and has maybe actually read books to help you at a library?

As for the masters degree - it’s really for people that run the libraries - courses include budgeting, management, data analysis and more in depth subjects that are somewhat needed for mid management but not necessarily used

My bachelors degree is in philosophy- no way I’m getting a job in anything without a masters

so what are the people who work there supposed to do? It’s better for them to be unemployed and on welfare?

Any government entity can be argued as a massive waste of money.

All taxpayers should be big mad about an unconstitutional taxation bait and switch.

It would not be impossible to have a forensic accountant determine how much St George residents paid into this and have them reimbursed…I need to fund a politician to fund who will start legislation for a voter line-item veto

the jones creek library in St George is a very busy branch that the people paid into and obviously use well

They shouldn’t get reimbursed for something they are using.

I agree. In fact, I believe the library is asking for a smaller renewal this year because they have too much money and they know it.

I read what the library board planned to do in the next ten years with their tax money. They plan more libraries. I don’t believe we need more libraries. I think they could lower taxes even more if they take that out of the plan.

Now I do not agree with the mayor’s plan to use library dollars to fix holes in the general budget. The taxpayers voted that library money go to libraries. It was a parish wide vote; thus a parish wide tax. Thd library should keep their surplus and use it for renovations and maintenance. That would allow them to reduce their millages more.

If the mayor wants to hire more cops and give them raises I believe he should push for a city tax to pay for all that. Let BR vote on it.

You can oppose this resolution here BRLA.gov resolution number is 25-00187, the meeting date is 3/12/2025.
With cuts to funding, I have heard that the library plans to only operate Monday through Friday 9 to 5 which would cut out all evening and weekend activities, as well as cut out the opportunity to use the meeting spaces like we do for Cub Scout meetings.

They just want everything hushed, out of the paper and away from our eyes as quickly as possible.

Believe that.

this is stupid - you’d think they’d be smarter than that. Only homeschoolers go to the library in the mornings - and they could really go early afternoons.

Branches should be opened 12-8 and regionals maybe 12-9.

I always thought the main library being opened during the week until 10 a waste. Kids shouldn’t be out that late.

THIS shite RIGHT HERE is exactly what the last governor did when he threatened to "cut LSU football." They know damn well that isn't happening but they toss it out there to scare voters and pressure those who would reign in their spending. Look at the conniptions all the people in Washington are having over DOGE right now. It's pathetic. When they threaten actions like this, the voters should be in front of their offices with torches and pitch forks.

If you are asking financially people going on welfare is cheaper than keeping them employed for the government and its not really close.

Yeah, so they can sit around for 20 years and then live off the pension for another 40 years after.
they don’t get 100% of their salary after putting 20 years in

It would be actually cheaper for tax payers if most of the library workers do what you suggest.
