Standards? You're way over-thinking this thing. It's just a convenient place to go grab some lunch every now an then. You don't go and have your 25th anniversary dinner there.

It's more about the context. I don't judge someone in an airport or in a pinch for time. But if someone has their rehearsal dinner at Chili's (or FLorabama for that matter)

What makes any restaurant convenient? You go in, you know what they've got on the menu. You order, you eat, you pay, you leave. It's not classy, it's not trashy. It's just a restaurant.

In my city, there are equally convenient places that aren't chains that are better.

In some podunk towns, that may very well be the case and that is fine.

location mostly

and Chilis are not usually located in or near neighborhoods

they are usually located by interstate exits or big shopping centers, so I don't see how they could be that convenient for someone that lives in a real neighborhood

I'll also reiterate that Chili's is preferable to something like TGIFriday's or Bennigans

I work in Birmingham when I'm in the office (which is most days). Other days I could be anywhere around the state.

And for the record, Chili's is not even on my normal lunch rotation. I've not got anything against them. It's just the closest one to my office is in a direction I normally don't go.

Convenience is certainly a relative distinction. And different places offer different conveniences. I have no clue where the nearest Chili's is around here. So it's certainly not convenient for me. But it might be for others.

I still think it's a place with roughly the nutritional value of scotch tape. And I don't just mean that it's fatty. The shite in that food has altered its chemical makeup so much that it's barely recognizable. And they microwave some of their food to warm it up. That's just gross.

I think now at some Chilis each table has a kiosk where you can slide your credit card to pay. That definitely adds to the trashy factor even though I don't necessarily agree Chilis is totally trashy or give a fart if it is.

I live in a real neighborhood (actually a sub-division in a small town without a Chili's). But I work in Birmingham.

Do you work in the same neighborhood that you live?

I didn't realize Chili's was a biker bar.

There are no businesses of any type in my neighborhood. Now once you leave my subdivision you're no more than 5 minutes from everything from Mexican, Italian, Chinese, traditional southern, steak, BBQ, and a burger joint. And not a one of those are from a major chain.
