Earth's potential overpopulation

While I was reading the thread about the availability of self driving cars to the public and how it could save 90 percent of car deaths it has me thinking. With all the advancements in technology, improvement in medicine, and etc. What is going to keep the death rate on par with birth rate? At what point will the Earth become overpopulated? How critical is it to colonize another planet?

What effects are we seeing? Does overpopulation have an effect on global climate? I'm not a science guy.

I'm no science whiz, but I don't think people have a vast effect on climate change.

earth is nowhere near close to being overcrowded, it's just where people choose to live, if Jacksonville,FL were cut into 2' x 2' grids, everyone in the world could stand on their own grid

It's not just about physical space for each person to occupy. You have to factor in energy requirements for each person. This also includes energy transfer and loss for food production.

Well a couple of posters illustrated in previous posts that our large population is destroying ecosystems with population. What good is the size of Earth if we can't maintain it?
