The Heights is definitely more expensive than both

I was surprised at how expensive apartments were in the Heights. Thought they'd be at least cheaper than mid town

It’s just a really desirable place to live for the reasons mentioned. Maybe I’m wrong since they’ve built more recently, I haven’t looked in a while, but I’ve always heard it’s more expensive.

For the longest time you couldn’t even really rent an apartment in the heights, it was all houses

I like it, as I go out less and less this is the kind of area I'd want to be in for the long term.

I lived in the med center and was close to rice village. Loved that area. College poon er’where and nice bars.

If you can swing it...Upper Kirby is a great place for an apartment/home, rent/mortgages are high as a mother fricker around here though.

My main office is in deer park. I’ve lived in rice military, midtown, and upper Kirby. Just look at places inside the loop close to 59 and 45. That will be best for traffic on the way home. Washington/heights are better than the three listed above IMO but will add 10-15 minutes to your commute coming home. I live off Allen parkway right now and it’s easy access to the highways with under a $5-$10 uber downtown/midtown, Washington, or the heights.

Eado is gentrifying, and has some nice bars, but I wouldn’t want to live there for a few more years.

The heights look nice but I just think the commute would be too much.

I’ll look into Allen Parkway.

Some people above have mentioned construction/road work. Has this affected your commute* any?

Yes. There’s a huge construction project that’s been a pain in the arse coming up 45, but it will effect you anywhere you live inside the loop coming from the East side. Can’t let that deter you though, there’s always road construction in Texas.

It’s not too bad. They’re just redoing a couple of the downtown exits which forces more people to sit on 45.

very true. Summer traffic can be deceiving .

I moved to Jackson hill apt. Back in 2013 and live in rice military now. They just built 3 brand new apartments off Shepard and Washington. I commute from here to east side of town with no problem for the last 7 years and love the area. Highly recommend you start in this area with a 1 year lease...

Never lived in Houston, but midtown is fun for a single in their 20's. That would be my pic.
