Looking to get away from LA but I’m in the Chemical/Refining Industry so my options are limited.

Currently looking into Houston areas in close proximity to Pasadena/Deer Park. I’m 24, single with an above average income, looking for a 1 br apartment for $1000-1400 in an area with decent nightlife.

Midtown and Eado look like great options but I need more info. Planning a visit out there soon.

Also, looked into Corpus Christi but that place doesn’t look too appealing.

Mobile is another option, but I grew up in Baldwin County so it wouldn’t be anything fresh/new.

Insight on the chemical/refining industry would also be appreciated from any of you baws currently working in the area.

Don’t do either.

Midtown is douchebag central and EADO is hipster/still not really developed.

Look off memorial inner loop, upper Kirby, heights.

Midtown is overrated. Live off Washington. South of Washington but north of buffalo bayou is my favorite area.

Avoid Mobile: Nearly zero O&G work there.

I lived in an apartment inside both loops not far from Buffalo Speedway/Richmond at $900/mo a while back.

I’ve looked into Montrose a little bit, looks nice but would add about 10 mins of commute time vs living in midtown.

Terrible terrible place for a young person looking for nightlife

I wouldn’t worry too much about living where you go out if those are the two areas you’re looking at. Both especially midtown are easy cheap Uber rides to Upper Kirby Heights Rice Military. Midtown is more developed than Eado

In midtown you can get a 1 bed room for 1200 in many of the best apartments. Its all about the pool parties so find the one with the best scene. 2222 Smith street use to be really solid, not sure about now. If you want to save money you can sometimes find people in that area renting a room (all bills paid) but timing is everything so be prepared to rent instead.

Damn good advice. Been here in Houston for 20 years now and have watched the “in” places to live shift all over the damn place. You will want to live where you don’t have MF of a commute each morning. Trust me on this. And if you are testing the traffic in the summer time to see where to live, wait until the fall when school starts. Once all those little shits start school traffic gets worse.

Yep bought a house a mile from my office. I can afford to uber to any nightlife I want with all the money I save not paying tolls and sitting in traffic every day for hours.

This is one of my main concerns. I don’t want to live next to the plants for obvious reasons, but want to keep my commute under 30 mins. This is the only reason I’d choose Eado over Midtown.

My likely workplaces will be Valero, Houston refinery or Shell, Deer Park
