E-mail and successfully unsubscribing from a list

Is there a way to do this? Practically every time you buy something online, you're put on that site's e-mail list. I have followed the directions to unsubscribe from many of these, but the vast majority of the time the spam just keeps on coming.

Create a filter and send them to trash.
Unsubscribing from one just signs you up for 3 more.

Block emails from the sender?

Usually there is an option to unsubscribe in the email, but there have been a few times I received emails from a list I was supposedly unsubscribed from. You can block the email, but sometimes you have to unsubscribe a few times before it does.

You have to do it from a PC it can't be done from a mobile device but it's very simple just click on the option inside the email and go through the basic prompts.

I have a throwaway Gmail account for this very reason. Use it for when you purchase anything online.
It's also where I send weird and/or scandalous photos for safekeeping.

This is exactly what I've done. Multiple times in some cases.

Create a new email account. Make it whatever your current email is with spam. At the beginning. So spam.highc@gmail.com or some such thing. Use it when filling out online crap, never check it.
