It won’t let me link the booking info. The drunk driver’s name is Joshua Shane Kelly, 35 year old from West Monroe. He was charged with three counts of vehicular homicide and a hit and run.

There’s no difference between texting and driving and drinking and driving. NONE. But you shouldn t be punished if you don’t cause harm. If you cause harm does it really matter why? Drunk, texting, looking some other way. The punishment should fit the harm. No harm no punishment

Some on this board, for whatever reason, will defend drunk driving

Harsher penalties are needed for sure

I 100% support a mandatory death sentence via hanging for anyone who drives drunk and kills someone. And not where it takes 30 years to carry out the sentence. frick that. Within 30 days of conviction, their arse needs to be swinging.

Do we get to put teens in jail for a year if they are texting and driving?

Why limit this to teens?

I suspect some of this is the thought that it's also lumping in just drinking in general. I don't have an issue with anyone drinking, or even getting drunk, just don't drive when you do it.

No issue with that. My Dad was hit head on my a drunk in 1966 2 years before I was born. The accident wrecked my Dad's knee and hip for life and killed one of my brothers. So yeah no problem with one bit, I would all assets of that person should be ceased and given to the victims family.

You might be shocked how many civilized folks here regularly hit happy hour, tail gate, go to dinner, etc. then hop behind the wheel.

Remember, 3-4 beers would equate to hard prison time by your metric.

Off topic: texting and driving should also be under much stricter laws.

That’s really really sad and heartbreaking. I’m so sorry to hear this.

Louisiana is so obsessed with DUI checkpoints and drunk driving, yet the penalties are light. It’s bass ackwards.

If you are over the legal limit, what difference does how you got there make?

On Friday, June 10, 2022, at approximately 11:40 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a two-vehicle crash which occurred on LA Hwy 34 south of LA Hwy 840-1. This crash claimed the lives of 68-year-old George Barmore, 12-year-old Emory Barmore, and 12-year-old Layla-Grace Barmore, all of West Monroe.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2007 Mitsubishi Endeavor, driven by Barmore, was traveling northbound on LA Hwy 34. For unknown reasons, he crossed the centerline into the southbound travel lane and collided with a 2005 Ford F-250, driven by 35-year-old Joshua Kelley of West Monroe.

Barmore, who was restrained, was pronounced dead at the scene. Barmore’s two juvenile passengers, who were not restrained properly and were sharing a seat belt, were also pronounced dead at the scene. Kelley and his juvenile passenger, who were restrained, sustained non-life-threatening injuries. They fled the scene on foot after the crash and prior to law enforcement’s arrival. Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office Deputies were able to locate Kelley and returned him to the crash scene for the investigating Troopers.

Terrible accident. At the very least I wish the girls would have been properly restrained.

I think a sliding scale for the legal limit would be an idea. 0.8-1.2 is buzzed and not nearly as Impaired as 1.5-2.0.

Good. Put 'em in orange with chains and have their asses on the shoulder of the roads year round picking up litter for 25¢/hour working off thousands of dollars of fines.
