Some of those centers look pretty swank. I wouldnt mind checking in for a week or so if I could opt out of the sessions and just hit the pool and the five star dining. Maybe do a little yoga and horseback riding if I'm feeling energetic.

It’d be cooler if they let you drink and do drugs in there

This was probably 7-8 years ago, right when she started to go nuts - would guess one of her first trips into the rehabs places

you are correct about some of this...guy was a multi millionaire who drank his wife and kids away....would check himself in to the high dollar rehab facilities in Southern Cal every time he wanted to dry out...not sure if he drank his money away or not, haven't seen him in a few years

This. if he's really serious about getting sober. Had friends of mine stay sober, or at least manage it way better, after a 90 day stint there

I did 97 days at Palmetto Addiction Recovery Center for alcohol use/abuse just under three years ago after “unsuccessful” stints at a couple of others during the same year. I’d recommend their program IF your friend can commit to a full 90 days. It helped me tremendously.

I can tell you that no program is going to be 100%. The program itself can’t really fix you. It’s just a tool you can use to learn things about yourself and hopefully change your way of thinking to where you don’t want to be drunk/high all the time. Bottom line, if they don’t want to change, they won’t. Ever. I keep up with quite a few people that were at Palmetto while I was and many of them are doing well. There have also been about 25 or so that have passed, mostly due to opiate use once they got home.

Good luck to your friend.

Yeah brother. It’s what I do for work. Do you have an email and I can get some more info and figure out the right place for her?

I told them I was there b/c of jail. They had me sitting around in detox doing nothing for an entire week. Then, I had to start going to the group stuff. I wasn't participating, so they told me if I didn't, they'd call the DA and have me sent back to jail (complete bluff). I participated twice, saying my thoughts. They didn't like them, said I had severe mental issues, and told me they'd kick me out if I didn't participate properly. I told them they wouldn't get paid if I wasn't there. After that, I just pretended to do individual sessions for the rest of the month, and just smoked cigs and watched TV instead.

There are people at rehabs that go just for the camaraderie. They are easy to pick out. Most are there for good reasons. One guy I was in detox with got taken to the ER and died after alcohol withdrawals

Insurance will pay sometimes. Most of the people I was with had their insurance footing the bill

I paid 10k out of pocket for my stint. Not sure it was worth it.

The weekly visits with the psychiatrist were needed.

The individual counseling was good.

The fricking finger painting or art therapy was pointless.
