Can we talk about the helicopter flying only 500 feet over a residential neighborhood?
I realize the drone was too high, but 500 feet is incredibly low for the helicopter.
ETA - I guess not that low, but I bet that shite was pretty loud.

Do the controls on the better ones cut you off at a certain altitude or tell you how high they are? I'm seen them go pretty damn high, seems way higher than 400 ft. I've seen them get high enough to basically disappear over the beach?
If this was over the beach, I could see it happen easily. Tons of drones over the beaches. I may get shite from this, but you really shouldn't be flying that low with all the drones in highly likely places. Especially someone like the military that may be a likely terrorist target.

The ceiling is 400 feet AGL but if there is a tall building you can fly 400 feet higher than it in a 400 foot radius. But you are required to stay 500 feet below clouds.
Most of the regulations deal with class B, C and D airspace that you need ATC permission to fly in.

How long before terrorists start strapping bombs to drones?

mine does not, I can remove the altitude limit, but have never done so.
Some drones will not arm/launch if you are too close to an airport or restricted air space.
I took mine to Perdido key last summer and was sorry to find out the entire beach was restricted.

Are they going to give me $599 to reimburse the destruction of my property? Need to watch where they are going next time.
This is the OT. Posters here already demonstrated earlier this week that when someone else damages your property, it is your fault.

1 main rotor blade on a Blackhawk is $250k.

You can hear a helicopter coming so why not just be more aware?

quote:As previously posted, it's 400 ft above ground level for Part 107 pilots (commercial). Oddly enough, you are permitted fly 400 feet above and around a "structure". If the structure is 500 feet high, you can fly up to 900 feet but must be within a 400-foot radius of the structure.
Ceiling is 400ft for hobbyist, not sure the laws on a commercially licensed pilot, tigerpawl or what ever his name is would likely know.
It goes without saying that this applies to areas that are not controlled airspace (Class B, C or D). Of note: almost the entire city of Lafayette, LA (Class C Airspace) is a no-fly zone for Part 107 Pilots.

Becaause how would you know your altitude? Have you been around them at all? They go high as shite, you can't tell me the average person is not going to max that things height out routinely. Honestly, how do you know the height unless it tells you?

yeah I live in class Bravo airspace in a mode C veil.
My cousin's drone wouldn't work.

quote:Your concentration is pretty much focused on the drone (maintain visual line of sight), the controller, and the display, You're "In a Zone", so to speak. Helicopters, especially in noisy environments on the ground, come up on you very quickly. Don't get a false sense of security and assume the 400 ft ceiling is made of stainless steel. It's a ceiling in name only.
You can hear a helicopter coming so why not just be more aware? The sky is big so is a Blackhawk. I am not a drone guy but I don't see how this happens.

So, there has been a plane flying low every night over kenner. It shows up on flight aware as a jet when it's a twin piston.
They have to have permission because of proximity yo class B. Yet they fly low and very late at night. Odd as hell.
